Covid Alien NFT sells for winning bid of $10M at Sotheby's auction

CryptoPunk #7523, which gets its more familiar name from the medical mask it wears and the blue tone of its skin, was sold by a collector and digital art advocate known as SillyTuna. Bidding opened at $1.5B and lasted about four minutes; the final sale price, which includes fees, was $11.75M. The nonfungible token (NFT) is one of nine alien punks and one of 175 with a mask, Sotheby's said. There are a total of 10K unique CryptoPunks, pixelated images that were randomly generated using algorithms developed in June 2017 by software developers John Watkinson and Matt Hall.
